Our Life Together

Rexburg, ID, United States
We've been married for 5 years! We met here in Rexburg, Idaho where we lived in the same apartment complex, volunteered with similar church callings, and attended the same university. It was only a matter of time before we'd bump into each other! Kelly graduated with her bachelors in psychology and has since been working with mentally ill adults and children. She has been accepted to Drexel Univeristy for her Masters in Higher Education Administration and Organizational Management. Sam recently graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho with his bachelors in English Literature. We've had so much fun and so many growing experiences in the past 5 years, and have weathered so much good and bad during our young marriage. And we love each other so much more as a result of the happy and sad experiences that we have gone through hand in hand with each other and with the Savior. Our life is a simple one, but it's ours and we're glad to have it.

Going Back to School!!!

I am so excited to announce that I have been accepted into graduate school!!! I have spent countless hours in researching schools and programs over the past few years, and thinking and praying about if and when when to go back, what school to attend, and what program to pursue. I finally found a program that I really like from a well established and accredited university, and one that had a fully online program :) So I will be attending Drexel University and working towards my masters of science in higher education administration and organizational management, with an emphasis in student affairs. I am super excited!!! If my financial aid goes through in time, I will start this fall. If it doesn't than I simply start in January. But either way I am in!

I am just so grateful for all of the help I've received from Heavenly Father in coming to this point, the advice of those who have taken a similar road before me, and for the patient, patient ears of my friends and family, especially Sam and my mom. They listened to me "think out loud" about this decision for such a long time. And the timing is perfect. If I had gone sooner, I may have sought out a counseling degree at Idaho State University, which is a 90 minute commute one way, not to mention a lengthier degree program. (And I love working in mental health; it's actually so much fun for me, but I think that education administration is a better path for me and my family at this time. The mental health profession will still be there for me when I'm finished with this degree, and I can always incorporate it into my new profession, especially if I become a university administrator with a little part-time counseling on the side.) The amount of time I would have had to invest at Idaho State University would have definitely meant sacrificing time with Sam and our home and family. But now with this new job that is so much closer and has better pay, I don't have to be gone as much, which means more time to study, but still having quality time with Sam each day. I mean, I will certainly have to manage my time well, but it won't be as much of a juggling act with the school/work arrangement that I feel so blessed to have!

Speaking of managing time, I really need to go to bed ;) Goodnight!
